Stuffed Hairy Gourd in Oyster Sauce

Hairy gourd 600 g [2 pcs]
Mashed shrimp meat 150 g
Chinese mushroom(s) 2 pcs [soaked and diced]
Corn starch 1 heaped tbsp [for dusting]


Corn starch 1/2 tsp
Sugar 1/4 tsp
Salt 1/4 tsp
White Pepper to taste
Premium Brand Oyster Sauce 1 1/2 tbsp
Selected Light Soy Sauce 1 tsp
Corn starch 2 tsp
Water 125 ml

  1. Peel the hairy gourd.  Cut into 10 rounds [about 2 cm thick].  Remove most of the inner pulp.  Cook in boiling water until tender.  Drain and let cool.
  2. Mix the mashed shrimp meat with marinade.  Divide into 10 portions.
  3. Dust the inner part of the hairy gourd with corn starch and stuff with shrimp meat.
  4. Arrange hairy gourd on a serving plate.  Steam over high heat for 8 minutes or until done.  Pour away excess juice.
  5. Bring sauce mix to the boil and pour over hairy gourd.
